About the Association

The Asia-Pacific Management Accounting Association (APMAA) is a vibrant community of accounting academics and practitioners dedicated to promoting excellence in accounting research, education, and practice. Since our founding in 2004, we have built a distinguished reputation through leading-edge research and publications. Our membership and board reflect rich gender and geographic diversity, fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation. Through teaching, research, and a robust professional network, we shape the future of management accounting and maintain our position as a thought leader in the field.

Mission

The Asia-Pacific Management Accounting Association provides a platform for management accounting academics and practitioners in the Asia-Pacific region to enhance their contribution to global scholarship and improve the lives of people throughout the region. We accomplish this by fostering worldwide connections that facilitate communication, learning, and the sharing of management accounting knowledge in education, research, and practice.

Vision

The Asia-Pacific Management Accounting Association will create and disseminate academic and professional knowledge through research conducted at members' universities and industries, establishing itself as a premier international organization in management and accounting studies.

The association has set the following objectives:

-Pursue truth in management and accounting fields and develop a reliable information resource center

-Facilitate members' ability to conduct cutting-edge research by creating research development sessions at our annual conferences

-Globalize high-level research and education by incorporating both Eastern and Western contributions in our conferences

-Foster worldwide networking among the scholarly community and provide platforms for disseminating research through our annual conferences and The Asia-Pacific Management Accounting Journal

-Increase the practical relevance of our scholarship by encouraging descriptive research on management accounting practices

·-Recognize outstanding scholars and pioneering researchers who address new issues and technologies in management accounting

·-Enhance exchange and collaboration between academics and practitioners nationally and internationally

Background of the Association

The Asia-Pacific Management Accounting Association (APMAA), established in 2004, is the leading association of scholars and specialists in management and accounting. The proposal to form the association was introduced at the Asian Management Forum held November 3-4, 2002, in Fukuoka, Japan. Founder members from across the Asia-Pacific region shared a vision of advancing management and accounting research and practices with particular reference to the region.

When the second Asia-Pacific Management Accounting Forum convened November 24-25, 2004, in Malaysia, founder members unanimously agreed that the time had arrived to officially establish the Asia-Pacific Management Accounting Association with two primary objectives:

1.    To promote the advancement of management accounting theory and practices with particular reference to Asia-Pacific accounting issues

2.    To organize forums and conferences and publish The Asia-Pacific Management Accounting Journal (APMAJ)

Professor Dr. Akira Nishimura served as APMAA President from the association's inception until 2009. On January 1, 2010, Professor Dr. Susumu Ueno assumed the presidency. APMAA renewed its governance structure on January 1, 2014, and Professor Dr. Susumu Ueno took on the newly created position of Chair of the Board of Directors, a leadership role he continues to hold today.
