Welcome Message from the Chair of APMAA Board of Directors
This
year the Asia-Pacific Management Accounting Association (APMAA)
holds its 13th Conference (APMAA 2017) with the theme
“Management Accounting and Society: A Global Perspective” at the
Xuhui Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), Shanghai,
China from November 6th (Monday) to 9th
(Thursday). The conference is organized by the Department of
Accounting, Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM) at
Shanghai Jiao Tong University under the leadership of Professor
Yiming Hu, Chair of the APMAA 2017 Annual Conference Organizing
Committee.
Allow me to introduce the SITU and the ACEM
briefly. An imperial edict issued in 1896 by Emperor Guangxu,
established Nanyang Public School in Shanghai. The normal
school, school of foreign studies, middle school and a high
school were established. During the 1930s, the university gained
a reputation of nurturing top engineers. A significant amount of
its faculty was sent in 1956, by the national government, to
Xi'an to help build up Xi'an JiaoTong University in western
China. Afterwards, the school was officially renamed Shanghai
Jiao Tong University (SJTU). The name "Jiao Tong" comes from the
book Yi Jing. Literally, "Jiao" means unite and "Tong" means
harmony.
SJTU is a dynamic and comprehensive university
for excellent education, cutting-edge scientific research and
social service. Today, SJTU has 28 schools (departments), 64
undergraduate programs, 250 masters-degree programs, 203 Ph.D.
programs, 28 post -doctorate programs, and 12 state key
laboratories and national engineering research centers. There
are 16,195 undergraduates, and 30,270 masters and Ph.D.
candidates. SJTU led the country for the 7th consecutive year in
terms of both the number of projects and the amount of money
issued by National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM),
Shanghai Jiao Tong University boasts a rich history and
tradition, which dates back to the Business School of Nanyang
Public School founded in 1903. ACEM is dedicated to educate
economics and management students with international
competencies.
The Asia-Pacific Management Accounting
Association was founded in 2004 and, today, has grown in to one
of the world leading associations of scholars and specialists in
the field of management accounting. The main goal of the APMAA
conference is to bring together researchers and practitioners to
exchange theories, ideas, techniques and experiences relating to
all aspects of management and business accounting. Our annual
conferences provide a very good opportunity for our members to
interact face-to-face with experts from all over the world.
This
year’s conference received over 80 paper submissions from
academics, doctoral students and accounting professionals whose
countries and regions include China, Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan,
Qatar, Malaysia, Poland, Thailand, USA, New Zealand, United Arab
Emirates, India, France, Australia, UK, Lithuania and Canada. It
is indeed a great honor for APMAA to hold the 2017 conference at
SJTU, a world known research-oriented university. The
2017 conference is comprised of four plenary sessions, a CEO/CFO
session, a panel session, and 16 parallel sessions, 3 doctoral
colloquium sessions, the 2017 Board of Directors Meeting, and a
one-day company visit.
Events on Day One (November 6) are the 2017 Board of Directors
Meeting in the morning, the 2017 Doctoral Colloquium in the
afternoon, and a welcome reception in the evening at a
conference hotel.
On Day Two, an opening ceremony, two plenary
sessions, and a CEO/CFO session are held in the morning, 8
parallel sessions in the afternoon, and Gala Dinner at a
conference hotel in the evening. Prof. Dr. Mark Young
(University of Southern California), Prof. Dr. Yuhchang Hwang (China
Europe International Business School, Shanghai)
and Dr. Kip Krumwiede (Director of research for IMA) are keynote
speakers at the plenary sessions. Invited panelists for the
CEO/CFO session are Mr. Jianhua Wan (President of Association of
Shanghai Internet Financial Industry), Mr. George Gross (CFO of
Shanghai Disney Resort) and Mr. Can Wang (Senior Vice President
and the Chief Financial Officer of Fosun).
On Day Three, two plenary sessions and one panel
session are held in the morning, and 8 parallel sessions are
held in the afternoon. Prof. Dr. Rajiv Banker (Temple
University), Prof. Dr. James Ohlson (Hong Kong Polytechnic
University)
and Alan Parkinson (Deputy Director
(Education), Principal Teaching Fellow in Management School of
UCL) are keynote speakers at the plenary sessions. Panelists at
the panel session are Prof. Dr. Guliang Tang (University of
International Business and Economics, China) and Prof. Dr. Masao
Tsuji (Waseda University, Tokyo).
On
Day Four, we hold a company visit to Shanghai General Motors
Co., Ltd., SIASUN Robot & Automation Co., Ltd. and the Coca-Cola
Company. All the companies are in Pudong, Shanghai. We are sure
you will find the tour to be satisfying and rewarding.
In the past two years, the SJTU Conference
Organizing Team members have poured their passion and tremendous
energy to lead APMAA 2017 to success. It is time for their hard
work to be rewarded fully. On behalf of APMAA, I would like to
express my sincere appreciation to the dedication of all
organizing team members in making this conference unique and
inspiring through the blend of different kinds of programs to
cater to the different palates.
My special thanks go to the Professor Yiming Hu,
2017 Conference Chair, Professor Lijun Xia Co-Chair of APMAA
2017, Professor Xiaodong Xu, Vice-Chair of APMAA 2017, Associate
Professor Shenquan Hao, Chair of the 2017 Doctoral Colloquium,
